Goose Croft, Edale, Peak District
About
The setting of this small and comfortable cottage is beautiful but you feel quite secluded, tucked away behind the village houses. The village of Edale is 1 minute walk away, with access to two pubs, The Nags Head and The Rambler Inn, and two cafes, the Penny Pot and Newfold Farm Cafe (various opening times depending on the season). There is also a small shop.
The scenery around this area in the Peak National Park is stunning and direct from the door you can enjoy the countryside by walking or biking, for short or longer routes.
Pedal Peak have produced (March 2019) four new cycle guides aimed at leisure cyclists who are looking for short/medium circular routes. The four guides, cover the Hope Valley, Bakewell, Ashbourne, Matlock area. They are available as downloads here and we have copies of the Hope Valley and Bakewell areas in the cottage for you to borrow.

At Goose Croft there is a comprehensive guest information folder and there are also A4 laminated maps showing local walks straight from the door, for you to take out and use.
The Moorland Centre is half a mile down the road and has lots of useful information about the area.
Castleton is just 7 miles by car and you can also walk to the village over the Mam Tor/ Losehill Ridge via the old 'coffin route'. Castleton has an assortment of gift shops selling the famous Blue John stone, four different caves to visit, a good selection of cafes and six pubs!
Buxton is also worth a day visit, as is the market town of Bakewell (if only to go and buy a Bakewell pudding, not tart! ) and the well known Chatsworth with its beautiful house and fabulous gardens.
Eyam the 'plague village' is a really interesting day out, there is also a museum (telling the story of the plague), Eyam Hall and its Craft Centre. You can also visit The Riley Graves, the tragic burial ground of a Peak District plague family.
The gritstone edges and moorland of the Dark Peak and the beautiful valleys of the White Peak provide two contrasting areas to go walking or cycling.
You can get to Edale by train, it is the main Manchester to Sheffield line, through the Hope Valley. Edale station is a 10min walk from Goose Croft and gives you the option to explore the area without a car. Many of our guests have taken the train to villages along the line and then walked back to the cottage or used the train to visit Manchester or Sheffield for a day
