We have put a selection of maps together, that take you on walks straight from the door of Goose Croft. You can find a laminated version in the cottage, which you are welcome to take out with you on your walk. Enjoy
Ollerbrook, a quick stroll
Stretch the legs after sitting in the car all day or go for an early morning jog!
The wall walk
Start up the Pennine Way and then follow the boundary wall of open access, around to Heardman’s Plantation. A ‘locals’ walk and maybe a pint in the Nags Head to finish
Grindsbrook out and back
Out and back up Grindsbrook. Go just as far as you want and return the same way
Upper Booth round trip
Across the fields under the land slip of Broadlee Bank, it’s early in the walk but take in the views from Milly Heardman’s bench, then drop into Upper Booth. Turn back to Barber Booth and past Shaw Wood to the village
The Nab walk
Climb past Heardman’s Plantation to The Nab. Enjoy fine views across the valley and then down Oller Brook and into Edale
Hollins Cross
Walk to Small Clough, then climb slowly across the hillside to Hollins Cross. Admire the views. Down and back to the village
Back Tor
Take the path in front of The Peak Centre to Barber Booth. Across the fields to Greenlands and Hollins Cross. Walk the ridge to just before Back Tor, enjoying the views. Descend on grassy paths, a little favourite. Along the road past the old mill and pick up the lane to Ollerbrook.
Round the valley
Low level walk around the valley, with a pub/cafe stop half way round. Finish with a ‘locals’ path and have a breather at John Connor’s bench
Mam Tor
Out of the village through Small Clough to Mam Nick. Join the crowds on Mam Tor for fine views and enjoy the contrasting scenery as you make your way to Hollins Cross. Back to Small Clough and the village. A pint in The Rambler may be appropriate.
Kinder - easy way up
Maybe the ‘easier’ way up !
Climb to The Nab and then below Ringing Roger to the edge path. Return the same way in time for an ice cream at Edale General Store
Off the beaten track
Walk up Oller Brook and cross over the stream. Follow the track above the stream, turn sharp right on the track then left onto grassy paths, climbing all the way. You won’t see many people going up the zig-zag path onto Kinder (a favourite, lovely). Then a quick few hundred metres along the edge path before descending. ‘Off piste’ again on the vague spur to The Nab, then straight down the ridge to the wall. Back to civilisation and the village
Quiet, steep and beautiful
At the first high point break off the Pennine way and pick up the boundary wall to the small woodland. Turn steeply up the old sled tracks and huff and puff to the top. Enjoy the level ground and brief climb to Grinslow Knoll 601m, now take in the views of Kinder. Retrace your steps past the sled ascent and follow the vague path to the wall and steep descent. At the first ‘level platform’, trend down and left along a grassy path above the landslip. Breathe a sigh of relief as you spot the gate and path back to the Pennine Way.
Rushup Edge
Walk across the fields to Barber Booth and through the hamlet. Climb up Chapel Gate and round onto Rushup Edge. Take in the 360° views from Lord’s Seat before enjoying the ridge walk and path back. Have a well earned cuppa at the Penny Pot Cafe !
