Hawthorn in the Edale Valley
/The hawthorn in its full glory
The Edale valley along with many other places is looking spectacular at the moment as the hawthorn is in full bloom.
April 5th 2021
We have just heard that we can now welcome back guests to Goose Croft from Monday April 12th 2021
Kinder Scout
9pm on Kinder Scout, after walking all the way round the edge path. Caught the sunset through the strange shaped gritstone boulders, carved out by the elements.
The Foxgloves are out
What a stunning view. Looking towards Grindsbrook with Kinder Scout in the background. Just a 20min walk from Goose Croft.
Primroses
The garden is beginning to bloom. The wild primroses (primula vulgaris) are looking beautiful.
Time to redecorate
We have also taken the opportunity to redecorate the lounge and bedroom in ‘skimming stone’ a beautiful Farrow and Ball colour that’s looks great in the cottage.
A good job done
After 4 days of manual work with two of us digging and shovelling, we have finished the two drains.
COVID19
Well what a strange time, one minute we had a full calendar of guest for the next 3 months and then no was allowed to visit.
So, time to get on with jobs!
We dug a drainage ditch round two sides of Goose Croft where the level of the ground is higher than the floor level inside.
Near Harry Hut

Kinder northern edges
February 2020 a chilly easterly left these light snow patches on the area cleared for sphagnum moss planting
The first snow of 2020
We woke up this morning to find a covering of snow. Goose Croft looks beautiful at this time of year.
A walk from Edale to Hope over Kinder Scout
A stunning day, 29th December 2019
Looking across from the southern edge of Kinder Scout
What a day, the heather in its full glory and a fabulous walk back from Derwent reservoir to Goose Croft. The hill in the distance is Losehill and Back Tor is to the right, all part of the Mam Tor Ridge.
The hawthorn in its full glory
The Edale valley along with many other places is looking spectacular at the moment as the hawthorn is in full bloom.
Looking across to Mam Tor
Also known as ‘The Shivering Mountain’, due to its constant movement and slippage.
On my way to Ringing Roger
Looking down on Edale village from my walk up to Ringing Roger. Its’s about a 45minute walk to the top and you can have a bit of fun with a mini scramble on your way up if you wish.
15 minutes from Goose Croft
Looking down the path, half way up to The Nab. Look a little closer and you will see path in the valley bottom. This is an alternative walk that will take you up Grindsbrook and onto Kinder Scout.
The hill you can see in the top right of the photo is Grinslow Knoll which stands at 601m.
Looking towards Kinder Scout….
from the path between Edale village and Ollerbrook Booth
Bike storage
The safe lockable bike storage shed has arrived…….
………and is in place for you to store your bikes, whilst you are staying with us. There are plenty of mountain bike routes straight from the door and if you want to road cycle you can get out of the Edale valley by either heading up Mam Tor or gently cycling down to Hope and pick your route from there. There are also cycle trails further south, the Monsal Trail being one of them. It is car free, relatively flat and runs from near Buxton all the way to Bakewell, home of the famous ‘Bakewell Pudding’. The Tissington and High Peak Trails are the other two.
Great spotted woodpecker
A regular visitor
The bird feeders are very busy at the moment, as it is a little chilly in Edale. Goose Croft has binoculars, bird ID cards and books to help you find out who is visiting the garden.
